The step up to Stakes class was handled as comfortably as the step up in distance by three-year-old filly Pleasuring as she raced to a convincing win in the Listed Strutt Stakes in Hobart on 11 February.
Pleasuring maintained the steady flow of Australian winners for her sire Hard Spun, becoming his 62nd Stakes winner and offering the prospect of further success in the Listed Tasmanian Oaks over the same 2,100m trip on 25 February.
With her stablemate Maheera setting a solid pace, Pleasuring remained midfield until the final 400m when jockey Damian Lane set out after the leaders, taking control 100m from the line and going on to score by a length from Casa De Lago.
Pleasuring had shown steady improvement as her races became longer, winning her maiden over 1,600m at Ballarat in January 2018.
The filly is from a strong winning family, her dam Sleeplessinseattle has had seven foals to race, all who have won. Her dam Seattle Rhyme produced 10 foals to race, eight of them winners and third dam Elizabeth Drake got 12 to the track for 10 winners, including the Australian G1 performer Northern Drake.
Hard Spun will stand the 2018 season at Jonabell Farm for $40,000, stand and nurses.
