Sea Foam took command in the stretch and pulled away to win the Notebook Stakes at Aqueduct by a length November 26.
The dark bay colt became the second juvenile Stakes winner of the weekend for his sire, Medaglia d’Oro. On Saturday, Godolphin’s Enticed captured the G2 Kentucky Jockey Club at Churchill Downs.
Settled just off the pace through the early stages of the race, Sea Foam moved up to challenge for the lead as the field raced through the far turn. In the stretch, Sea Foam put away longtime leader Morning Breez, then held off the late challenge of Stoney Bennett to win by a length.
Bred in New York by his owner, Waterville Lake Stable, Sea Foam is out of the Unbridled’s Song mare, Strike It Rich, winner of the G3 Boiling Springs Stakes. Strike It Rich is out of Belle Of Perintown, winner of the G2 Silverbulletday Stakes and Listed Pocahontas Stakes, and she is a half-sister to Stakes-placed Sumptuous.
Medaglia d’Oro is the sire of seven G1 winners in 2017, more than any other stallion in North America. His G1 winners this year include two Breeders’ Cup winners – Talismanic (Turf) and Bar Of Gold (Filly & Mare Sprint). Medaglia d’Oro is also the sire of the G1-winning three-year-old fillies New Money Honey and Elate; turf mare Dickinson; two-time G1 winning juvenile Bolt d’Oro; and two-time Eclipse Champion Songbird.
Medaglia d’Oro will stand the 2018 breeding season at Jonabell Farm for $250,000.
