Freshman sire Animal Kingdom sired his ninth winner when his two-year-old daughter Island Getaway broke her maiden at Parx Racing November 18.
Stalking the leader from second through the early stages of the race, Island Getaway moved to the lead leaving the far turn, and pulled away through the stretch to win the six-furlong contest by seven-and-a-quarter lengths.
Bred in Maryland by Robert T. Manfuso and Katharine M. Voss, Island Getaway is out of the Speightstown mare Island Bound, winner of the G3 Winning Colors Stakes. Island Bound’s dam is the multiple Stakes-placed Indy Mood For Luv, a half-sister to Savorthetime (G3 First Lady Handicap) and Rogue Romance (G3 Bourbon Stakes, third G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile).
Animal Kingdom is the sire of eight other winners from his first northern hemisphere crop. They include G2 winner and G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf runner-up Untamed Domain, G2-placed Sunny Skies, Del Mar Graduation Stakes winner Continental Divide, and undefeated TDN Rising Star, Grace and Dignity.
Animal Kingdom will stand at Jonabell Farm in 2018 for a fee of $30,000, stands and nurses.
