Animal Kingdom’s two-year-old son Wicked Boy broke his maiden authoritatively at Gulfstream Park West on October 26th to become the sixth winner for his freshman sire.
Making his second lifetime start, Wicked Boy broke well and went straight to the lead in the one-mile turf maiden. He dropped back to second down the backstretch, but regained the lead around the turn and pulled away to win impressively by about four lengths. Another Animal Kingdom colt, Motatan, finished third.
Bred in Kentucky by Eaton & Thorne, Inc., Wicked Boy is out of the stakes-placed Yes It’s True mare Southern Truth.
Animal Kingdom is the sire of five other winners from his first crop, including three black-type winners – no other North American freshman sire has more. Tops among these is the G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf-bound TDN Rising Star Untamed Domain, winner of Woodbine’s G2 Summer Stakes on September 17th. His other winners include G2-placed Sunny Skies, Del Mar Graduation Stakes winner Continental Divide, and undefeated TDN Rising Star Grace and Dignity.
Animal Kingdom will stand at Jonabell Farm in 2018 for a fee of $30,000, stands and nurses.
