Medaglia d’Oro’s best son Astern will join the 2018 Darley stallion roster at Jonabell for a fee of $15,000. Astern, who is currently proving very popular during his first southern hemisphere season as a Darley stallion at Kelvinside Farm in Australia, is rated the best ever winner of the G1 Golden Rose, Australia’s top seven-furlong race for three-year-olds. His 126 Timeform rating makes him Medaglia d’Oro’s top-rated son in either hemisphere.
Astern’s sire, Medaglia d’Oro, is having arguably his best year ever at stud in 2017 with five individual G1 winners, a figure which cannot be bettered by any other American stallion.
His G1 winners in 2017 include dual Champion Songbird, who captured this year’s G1 Ogden Phipps and G1 Delaware Handicap; G1 Jenny Wiley winner Dickinson; and G1 Belmont Oaks heroine New Money Honey. His latest stars are dual G1-winning three-year-old filly Elate, and undefeated two-year-old colt Bolt d’Oro, who has also won at the highest level twice this year.
Medaglia d’Oro’s Breeders’ Cup contenders include Elate in the Distaff and Bolt d’Oro in the Juvenile, plus Wonder Gadot in the Juvenile Fillies, Talismanic in the Turf, and Gato Del Oro in the Dirt Mile.
Medaglia d’Oro will stand for $200,000 in 2018.
Bernardini’s three-year-old son Takaful, who successfully took on the older horses in the G1 Vosburgh, lines up in the Breeders’ Cup Sprint, while his G1-placed daughter Dancing aims for the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf. His 2018 fee will be $85,000.
Record-breaking G1 Met Mile winner Frosted will stand for an unchanged fee of $50,000. Frosted’s 123 Beyer Speed Figure earned in his devastating Met Mile victory is still the highest for a decade and the highest ever in a one-mile race.
2016 Kentucky Derby winner Nyquist’s fee will remain at $40,000. Nyquist became the first Champion two-year-old to win the Kentucky Derby undefeated since the great Triple Crown winner Seattle Slew and was only the second ever Breeders' Cup Juvenile winner to capture the Derby.
Nyquist and Frosted’s eagerly anticipated first foals will arrive in 2018.
Freshman sire Animal Kingdom is off to a tremendous start with three Black Type winners to his name already, making him co-leading freshman sire. His G2 winner and TDN Rising Star Untamed Domain is pointing to the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf and his fee remains at $30,000.
Completing the roster at Jonabell are Hard Spun ($40,000), Street Sense ($35,000), Street Boss ($20,000), and Midshipman ($8,500), whose G1 daughter Princess Warrior lines up in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies.
Bernardini’s multiple G1-winning son Alpha will again stand at Sequel Stallions in New York for a fee of $5,000.
