New Money Honey provided trainer Chad Brown with a G1 trifecta when she held off the challenge of stablemate Sistercharlie to win the G1 Belmont Oaks Invitational July 8. Another stablemate, Uni, finished third.
It was the second G1 victory for the three-year-old daughter of Medaglia d’Oro, who captured the G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf last year. New Money Honey has now won four of her six lifetime starts.
Settled in fourth through the early stages of the ten-furlong turf contest, New Money Honey began to make up ground on the leader on the far turn. New Money Honey took command in mid-stretch, and held off the late rally of Sistercharlie to win by a long neck.
New Money Honey was bred in Kentucky by WinStar Farm, LLC, and was purchased for $450,000 at the 2015 Keeneland September Yearling sale. She is out of the Distorted Humor mare Weekend Whim, a full-sister to Any Given Saturday, winner of the G1 Haskell Invitational, and a half-sister to Bohemian Lady, winner of the G3 Cicada Stakes.
Medaglia d’Oro has now sired three G1 Stakes winners in 2017, more than any other sire. In addition to New Money Honey, Medaglia d’Oro is the sire of champion Songbird, winner of the G1 Ogden Phipps Stakes and Dickinson, winner of the G1 Jenny Wiley.
