Ever So Clever flew home late to deny pacesetter Chanel’s Legacy and win the G3 Fantasy Stakes by one-and-three-quarter-lengths at Oaklawn Park April 14.
It was the first Graded Stakes victory for the three-year-old daughter of Medaglia d’Oro, who may have punched her ticket to the G1 Kentucky Oaks May 5.
Settled near the rear of the field through the early stages of the race, Ever So Clever began to close on the leaders on the far turn. Carried wide entering the stretch, Ever So Clever continued her strong rally, eventually charging past longtime leader Chanel’s Legacy to win going away.
Bred in Kentucky by Clearsky Farms, Ever So Clever is out of Foxy Danseur, a Stakes-winning daughter of Mr. Greeley. Ever So Clever hails from the immediate family of In Conference, winner of the G3 Humana Distaff, and Personal Business, winner of the G1 John A. Morris Handicap.
Ever So Clever becomes the 100th Stakes winner for her sire Medaglia d’Oro, who has also sired champion and multiple G1 winner Songbird and Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf winner, New Money Honey.
Medaglia d’Oro is standing the 2017 breeding season at Jonabell Farm for a fee of $150,000.
