Haul Anchor took command on the far turn and was never threatened as he sailed to a one-and-a-half-length victory in the Gander Stakes at Aqueduct January 28.
The three-year-old son of Bernardini was making his first start of the year in the Gander, a one mile and seventy yard contest for New York-breds. It was the second Stakes win for Haul Anchor; he earned his first just last month when taking the one-mile Damon Runyon Stakes over the same course.
Bred in New York by Chester and Mary Broman, Haul Anchor is out of the winning Storm Cat mare Whichwaydidshego. Haul Anchor is a half-brother to two other Stakes winners in Mark My Way and Hard to Stay Notgo. His second dam, Stakes winner Spunoutacontrol, is a half-sister to G2 winner and sire Tale of the Cat.
Bernardini had another fantastic year in 2016 with 10 Graded Stakes winners including dual G1 winner Cavorting, multiple Graded Stakes winner Lewis Bay, G2 Royal Delta Stakes winner Penwith, and G2 Nashua Stakes winner Hemsworth.
He will stand the 2017 breeding season at Jonabell Farm for $100,000 live foal, stands and nurses.
