Godolphin’s four-year-old Hard Spun filly Promising Run closed strongly to win the G2 Al Rashidiya Stakes going nine furlongs on turf at Meydan on January 26th.
After sitting mid-pack through most of the race, Promising Run closed determinedly through the stretch and got up in the last 100m to win by a long neck over Light the Lights.
It was the third Group/Graded win for the Hard Spun filly who also captured the G2 Rockfel Stakes at Newmarket as a two-year-old and the G3 Istanbul Trophy last year.
Bred by Darley in Kentucky, Promising Run is out of the Know Heights mare Aviacion, a G1 winner in Brazil. In addition to Promising Run, Aviacion is the dam of Intercontinental, Champion Stayer in South Africa, as well as Group-placed Arabian Comet (by Dubawi). Aviacion is also a half-sister to G3 winners Persane and Cerutti, and to the dam of G1 winner Eddington.
Hard Spun is the sire of nine G1 winners including Eclipse Champion Questing, Arlington Million winner Hardest Core, and multiple G1 winner Hard Not To Like. His 11 Graded Stakes horses in 2016 included Graded winners Hard Aces, Big John B, Khusoosy and Reload.
Hard Spun will stand the 2017 season at Jonabell Farm for $45,000, stands and nurses.
