Bernardini’s two-year-old son Haul Anchor went wire-to-wire in the one-mile Damon Runyon Stakes at Aqueduct on December 29th for his first Stakes victory.
Haul Anchor broke well and went to the lead going into the first turn, maintained a one-length advantage down the backstretch and around the far turn, and drew away in the stretch to win by four-and-a-half lengths.
Bred in New York by Chester and Mary Broman, Haul Anchor is out of the winning Storm Cat mare Whichwaydidshego. Haul Anchor is a half-brother to two other Stakes winners in Mark My Way and Hard to Stay Notgo. His second dam, Stakes winner Spunoutacontrol, is a half-sister to G2 winner and sire Tale of the Cat.
Bernardini is the sire of ten Graded Stakes winners in 2016, including dual G1 winner Cavorting, multiple Graded Stakes winner Lewis Bay, G2 Royal Delta Stakes winner Penwith, and G2 Nashua Stakes winner Hemsworth.
Bernardini will stand the 2017 breeding season at Jonabell Farm for $100,000 live foal, stands and nurses.
