Hard Spun recorded at Stakes double at Sandown, Australia, 12 November with his juvenile daughter Arctic Angel scoring a dominant win in the Listed Merson Cooper Stakes over 1000m followed up by his consistent son Turnitaround's victory in the G3 Eclipse Stakes over 1800m.
After jumping from an outside barrier, Arctic Angel sped across to lead the field clearly. She dashed away shortly after entering the straight and went on to score a decisive victory with Sepoy’s daughter Zarpoya running on nicely for third.
A homebred for David and Jenny Moodie’s Contract Racing, Arctic Angel is out of city-winning Xaar mare Icy Maiden and is a full sister to Stakes performer Iceflow.
Turnitaround took his career earnings past $500,000 with his maiden Stakes success in the Eclipse Stakes. Hugh Bowman positioned the six-year-old close to the speed throughout the run and he drove to the lead at the 200m mark and repelled all challengers.
Bred and raced by Michael Rea, Turnitaround is out of Royal Academy mare Devon Dancer, a half-sister to G3 winner Vestey.
Hard Spun is the sire of recent G1 winner Le Romain as well as 2016 Graded winners Turnitaround, Fursa, Hard Aces, Promising Run, Big John B, Khusoosy and Reload. He will stand the coming season at $45,000.
