Progressive Medaglia d’Oro colt Veladero made it three wins in succession by leading all the way to win the G3 Gloaming Stakes (1800m) at Rosehill on September 24.
The Chris Waller-trained, Rory Hutchings-ridden three-year-old was sent straight to the front and held off the challengers, which was headed by Street Cry’s son Honeywine, to win by a long neck.
Veladero has now won three races this campaign, which started with a Hawkesbury maiden win September 3 before backing it up with a victory over 1600m at Warwick Farm on September 14.
Bred by Gerry Harvey, Veladero is out of four-time-winning Belong To Me mare Stacked, who is a half-sister to Stakes winner Yousingwedance. Stacked has produced three foals to race for two winners, with Veladero her first winner at Stakes level.
The victory by Veladero continues the recent run of Stakes winners for his sire Medaglia d’Oro, who is also the sire of G1 Golden Rose winner Astern.
Medaglia d’Oro has now produced 93 individual Stakes winners including Astern and 2015 G1 Golden Slipper winner Vancouver.
Medaglia d’Oro stands at Kelvinside for a fee of $110,000 inc GST.
