Godolphin Racing’s Promising Run earned a hard-fought, half-length victory in the G3 Istanbul Trophy at Veliefendi Sept. 3.
After stalking the leader through the first half-mile, the three-year-old daughter of Hard Spun moved up to challenge for the lead with two furlongs to run. Promising Run then turned back challenges from both Willpower and Tatvan Incisi for the victory.
It was the second Stakes win for the Hard Spun filly; she also captured the G2 Rockfel Stakes at Newmarket as a two-year-old.
Bred by Darley in Kentucky, Promising Run is out of the mare Aviacion, a G1 Stakes winner in Brazil. In addition to Promising Run, Aviacion is the dam of Intercontinental, Champion Stayer in South Africa, as well as Group-placed Arabian Comet (by Dubawi). Aviacion is also a half-sister to G3 winners Persane and Cerutti, and to the dam of G1 winner Eddington.
Hard Spun enjoyed a terrific year in 2015, siring G1 winners Hard Not To Like, Hard Aces, and Smooth Roller. Hard Spun’s nine Stakes winners this year include Graded winners Hard Aces, Big John B, Reload, and Khusoosy.
