Three-year-old Lonhro colt Holding Gold won the 5.5 furlong Quick Call Stakes on the turf at Saratoga Racecourse on 4 August for his first Stakes victory.
Going off as the 8-5 favorite, Holding Gold broke well and settled in a stalking position around the turn behind pacesetter Too Discreet (Discreet Cat). Holding Gold got past Too Discreet in late stretch and held on to win by a nose over Commend, with Too Discreet staying on for third.
Bred in Florida by Live Oak Stud, Holding Gold is out of G1 Gazelle Stakes winner and G1 Kentucky Oaks runner-up In the Gold (Golden Missile).
Yearlings from Lonhro's third and final Northern Hemisphere crop are selling over the next week at the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Sale and the New York Bred Yearling Sale. Included are two fillies selling at the select sale next Monday and Tuesday from the consignments of Gainesway Farm, Agent, and Michael and Julia O'Quinn, Agent. They sell as hip numbers 103 and 252 respectively.
Lonhro has sired a total of 62 career Stakes winners, including G1 winners and fellow Darley stallions Exosphere and Denman. Lonhro’s newest G1 winner is the talented The Conglomerate, winner of South Africa’s prestigious Durban July at Greyville last month.
