Angela Renee took command at the top of the stretch and drew off to post a two-length victory in the Lady’s Secret Stakes at Monmouth Park July 4. It was a Stakes exacta for sire Bernardini as another daughter, Genre, held on well to take second.
Sent off as the race favorite, Angela Renee broke alertly and was settled into second, stalking the early pace set by Genre. As the field entered the far turn, Angela Renee pulled even with Genre before taking command at the top of the stretch. Angela Renee began to draw off through the stretch to post an easy victory.
Bred in Kentucky by Siena Farms LLC, Angela Renee raced for Siena Farms as a two- and three-year-old, winning the G1 Chandelier and placing in the G1 Central Bank Ashland Stakes during that time. Angela Renee was entered in the 2015 Fasig-Tipton November sale, where she was purchased by her current owner, Don Alberto Stable for $3,000,000.
Angela Renee is out of Stakes-winning Deputy Minister mare Pilfer, and is a full-sister to multiple Graded Stakes winner, To Honor And Serve, winner of the G1 Cigar Mile and G1 Woodward Stakes. She is also a half-sister to Graded Stakes-placed Elnaawi (Street Sense). Pilfer is a half-sister to multiple Graded Stakes winner India.
Angela Renee was one of three Stakes winners for Bernardini over the long Independence Day holiday weekend. His daughter My Sweet Girl captured the Perfect Sting Stakes on the turf at Belmont Park, while another daughter, Innovative Idea, took the Iowa Distaff at Prairie Meadows.
Bernardini is the sire of 49 Stakes winners, and has eight Graded Stakes winners so far in 2016, including Cavorting, impressive winner of the G1 Ogden Phipps Stakes; Lewis Bay, winner of the G2 Gazelle Stakes; Penwith, winner of the G2 Royal Delta Stakes; Le Bernardin, winner of the G2 Al Maktoum Challenge Round 1; Carrumba, winner of the G3 Top Flight Handicap; and Shagaf, winner of the G3 Gotham Stakes.
