My Sweet Girl charged from last-to-first in the final furlong to win the listed Perfect Sting Stakes at Belmont Park July 2.
Settled at the rear of the field through the early stages of the race, the four-year-old daughter of Bernardini began closing on the leaders on the far turn. As the field entered the homestretch, My Sweet Girl was under a full head of steam as she closed strongly out in the center of the course. Under a drive from jockey Manuel Franco, My Sweet Girl just got up in the final strides to win by a head.
Bred in Kentucky by Bonner Young, My Sweet Girl is out the multiple Graded Stakes winner Bit of Whimsy, who captured the G1 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes and G2 Mrs. Revere Stakes during her racing career. My Sweet Girl is a half-sister to Caroline Thomas, winner of the G2 Lake Placid Stakes.
Bernardini has sired 49 Stakes winners thus far, and is once again is having a superb season, with eight Graded Stakes winners in 2016.
