Content to race at the rear of the field through the early stages of the race, Miss Double d’Oro turned on the afterburners with just over a furlong to run and rolled to a half-length victory in the Arboretum II Stakes at Santa Anita March 18.
The four-year-old filly became the second Stakes winner in just over an hour for her sire, Medaglia d’Oro.
Bred in Kentucky by Bluegrass Hall LLC, Miss Double d’Oro races as a homebred for the historic Calumet Farm. Miss Double d’Oro is out of the unraced Dynaformer mare, Lost Gold, and hails from the female family of Air Force Blue, Flanders, and Surfside.
Medaglia d’Oro was the sire of 29 Stakes winners in 2015 including Eclipse Champion juvenile filly Songbird, G1 Golden Slipper winner Vancouver, and Mshawish, winner of the G1 Gulfstream Park Turf Handicap. In 2016, Medaglia d’Oro has sired Graded Stakes winners Mshawish, winner of the G1 Donn Handicap, Songbird, winner of the G2 Las Virgenes and G3 Santa Ysabel, and Astern, winner of the G2 Silver Slipper in Australia.
