Reload closed strongly to earn a hard-fought victory in the G3 Tampa Bay Stakes Feb. 13.
The son of Hard Spun, who was making his first start of the year in the Tampa Bay, improved his overall record to eight wins in 23 starts.
Settled toward the rear of the field through the early stages of the race, Reload moved into contention on the far turn. Reload continued to rally strongly while racing out in the center of the turf course, and eventually wore down longtime leader Take the Stand to win by a neck.
Bred in Kentucky by the Phipps Stable, Reload is out of the multiple Graded Stakes-placed mare, Hidden Reserve, and is a half-brother to Philanthropist (G3 Queens County Handicap) and Defer (G3 Laurel Futurity). He hails from the female family of champions Inside Information and Smuggler.
Reload is one of 45 Stakes winners for his sire Hard Spun, whose best progeny include G1 winners Smooth Roller, Hard Aces and Hard Not To Like.
Hard Spun is standing the 2016 season at Jonabell Farm at a fee of $45,000, stands and nurses.
