The Tea Cups passes them all for first career Stakes win
For a horse that had never been entered in a Stakes race before, The Tea Cups, by Hard Spun, ran like she knew exactly what should be done, getting up in the final strides to win the Listed Yaddo Stakes at Saratoga on August 28th. In doing so, she represents the 42nd added-money winner for her sire.
Trailing in the back of the field for most of the mile and a sixteenth turf event, The Tea Cups really didn’t find her best stride until the field had made the turn for home. She had to maneuver through a slight bit of traffic down the lane but was able to pass the front runners to get the impressive win.
Bred by William Parsons, Jr., and David S. Howe in New York, The Tea Cups is out of the A.P. Indy mare Lunar Colony who is a full sister to G1-placed Soul Search. Lunar Colony is also the dam of multiple Stakes winner Lunar Victory.
Hard Spun is enjoying yet another impressive year as a sire with six Graded or Group winners, a number that places him equal with War Front and ahead of the likes of Distorted Humor and Kitten’s Joy. 2015 G1 winners Hard Not To Like and Hard Aces are two of his six career winners at the highest level, and his lifetime percentage of G1 winners to starters places him among North America's elite stallions in that category.
