Bay Of Plenty wires Alydar Stakes
The Saratoga meet continues to be a sensational one for Medaglia d'Oro, as the sire was represented by his 11th winner August 9 when Bay Of Plenty dominated the Alydar Stakes.
In the one-and-one-eighth-mile race Bay Of Plenty was sent along to take the early lead under a quick pace. The colt had a four-length advantage turning for home, and had no competition down the lane as the son of Medaglia d'Oro cruised to a sharp win.
Four-year-old Bay Of Plenty is a half-brother to G1 Champagne Stakes-placed Fortify, and is out of the AP Indy mare Kotuku, a daughter of Champion and G1 winner Flagbird. Bay Of Plenty placed in the G3 Discovery Handicap in 2014.
Medaglia d'Oro leads all North American sires by Stakes winners in 2015, a group that includes G1 winner Mshawish, G2 winner Gold Medal Dancer, and talented Australian G1 winner Vancouver. Among the sire's winners at Saratoga to date are G2 Lake George Stakes victress Mrs McDougal and Thieves Gold, an impressive winner of the Caress Stakes. Medaglia d'Oro is best known for his fantastic Horse Of The Year daughter Rachel Alexandra, whose two-year-old Bernardini filly Rachel's Valentina debuted a winner at Saratoga just one week ago.
