Maverick Wave makes a big splash at Chester
Maverick Wave won the G3 Huxley Stakes at Chester in England on May 7th to become the 46th Graded Stakes winner for his sire Elusive Quality.
The four-year-old colt broke well and went straight to the front in the 10 furlong contest. He was passed briefly in the final furlong by the favorite Cannock Chase, but battled back bravely to win by a half-length for Godolphin and trainer John Gosden.
Out of the G2-winning Stormy Atlantic mare Misty Ocean, Maverick Wave was bred in Kentucky by Jim Plemmons and Darley. He was a $100,000 yearling purchase at the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Sale in 2012.
Elusive Quality is the sire of 115 black-type winners and 13 Grade 1 winners, including Kentucky Derby winner Smarty Jones, Australian Champion Sepoy, Breeders' Cup Classic winner Raven's Pass, and multiple G1 winner and 2014 leading freshman sire Quality Road.
Elusive Quality stands for $40,000 live foal, stands and nurses.
