Third Stakes win for Bernardini's Dame Dorothy
Bernardini's Dame Dorothy is no stranger to the winner's circle, and the four-year-old filly continued the trend January 17 capturing her third Stakes win in the Florida Sunshine Millions Distaff stakes at Gulfstream Park. The filly is now five-for-six lifetime, including wins in the G3 Turnback The Alarm Handicap and Malvern Rose Stakes.
In the seven-furlong race Dame Dorothy traveled in fifth off the pace, before swinging three-wide around the far turn. At the top of the stretch the filly began to open up her advantage, and coasted in the stretch for the win.
A $390,000 Keeneland September yearling purchase for Bobby Flay, Dame Dorothy was bred by Derry Meeting Farm. She is out of the Woodman mare Vole Vole Monamour and is a half-sister to G1 E.P. Taylor and G1 Prix Vermeille winner Mrs. Lindsay.
2014 proved to be another fantastic year for Bernardini as the sire was also represented by G1 Chandelier Stakes winner Angela Renee and G2 Adironack Stakes winner Cavorting. Other G1 winners for the sire include Angela Renee's full-brother To Honor And Serve, and two Travers Stakes winners in Stay Thirsty and Alpha, who joined Darley's stallion roster this year.
Bernardini stands for $85,000 live foal, stands and nurses.
