Press release, October 27, 2014
Darley’s roster of 14 stallions in America will be led by one of the world’s elite stallions Medaglia d’Oro who has sired eleven G1 winners to date including new 2014 G1 winners Lochte and Coffee Clique. Among Medaglia d’Oro’s Breeders’ Cup entries are G3 winning two-year-old Imperia who heads for the Juvenile Turf; G1-placed colt Fast Anna who was narrowly caught in the King’s Bishop and undefeated colt Indianapolis. The latter two both run in the Breeders’ Cup Sprint. Medaglia d’Oro’s dominance in the sale ring also continued as his $1.5 million daughter at Keeneland September was the highest price for a filly sold in North America this year. Medagalia d’Oro’s fee has been set at $125,000.
Every stallion on the Darley roster with runners aged three and above has sired at least one G1 winner in 2014. The progeny of three Darley stallions: Bernardini ($85,000), Hard Spun ($35,000) and Street Sense ($35,000) have won them three G1 races apiece.
Bernardini’s treble includes current favorite for the Juvenile Fillies, Angela Renee, winner of last month’s Chandelier. Hard Spun, who returns to the US following a year at Darley in Japan, has sired Arlington Million winner Hardest Core, Wood Memorial winner Wicked Strong and Jenny Wiley victress Hard Not To Like. Street Sense has again earned a place among North America’s top sires thanks to one of the nation’s top three-year-old fillies, Sweet Reason, who is slated to run in the Breeders’ Cup Fillies and Mares Sprint.
Bernardini’s multiple G1-winning son Alpha, who became the first horse in nearly fifteen years to win both the Travers and the Woodward, was recently retired and will join Emcee ($7,500) and Desert Party ($7,500) at Sequel Stallions in New York at a fee of $8,500.
Charlie Boden, Head of Sales at Darley in America said, “Every stallion on our 2015 roster with runners, bar our freshmen, sired at least one G1 winner this year. Medaglia d’Oro continues to be a world-class stallion both on the track and in the sales ring. He delivers such rewarding results to breeders year after year. We’re excited about Alpha joining our roster. No other stallion son of Bernardini has won more Grade Ones. He’s got a great physical and pedigree and we can’t wait to introduce him to breeders in New York. We look forward to cheering home some Breeders’ Cup winners by our stallions next weekend then getting down to business at the breeding stock sales in the coming months.”
Boden continued “Street Cry deserves special mention. He retired to Jonabell in 2003, produced Zenyatta and Street Sense that first year and has been a headliner ever since. We will certainly feel the loss but his legacy will remain secure for generations through a number of his sons on our roster: Street Sense, Street Boss and Desert Party.”
