Atreides stays unbeaten with 12-length win in Monarchos Stakes
Sent off as the heavy 1-5 favorite in the Monarchos Stakes at Gulfstream, it was clear from the start that something special was happening as Atreides (Medaglia d'Oro) came away a 12-length winner.
No stranger to the winner's circle, Atreides broke his maiden first time out by more than five-lengths at Gulfstream in July, before following up with an Allowance score over the same course a month later. In the one-mile Monarchos Stakes the three-year-old colt was racing in third position but closing ground entering the turn. Atreides took over at the top of the stretch without being asked and coasted in the stretch, wrapping up by the significant margin.
A homebred for Stonestreet Thoroughbred Holdings LLC, Atreides is out of multiple G1-winning mare Dream Rush and is a half-brother to G1 Frizette winner Dreaming Of Julia.
Medaglia d'Oro continues to produce talented runners year after year. In 2014 he has been represented by G1 winners Lochte and Coffee Clique, who joined rank with other winners at the highest level for the sire such as Horse Of The Year Rachel Alexandra, G1 Kentucky Oaks winner Plum Pretty, and G1 CashCall Futurity winner Violence, among others.
