Micromanage manages an impressive Stakes victory

While there aren't many stakes races run at a mile and three quarters these days, Micromanage appeared to relish the added distance in the Birdstone Stakes at Saratoga on August 7, pulling away with the win for the third added-money victory of his career. The son of Medaglia d'Oro now boasts earnings of over $600,000 and remains a perfect two for two at "The Spa."

As the field broke from the gate on the backstretch, jockey Javier Castellano moved Micromanage into the second spot where he remained early on as the group of six colts passed the grandstand for the first time. It wasn't until the top of the stretch that the top two put a bit of distance between them and the rest and then Micromanage unleashed a winning move that had him eight and one-half lengths in front as he hit the wire.

Bred by Fiona Craig and Dermot Cantillon, Micromanage is out of multiple Stakes winner Catnip, a half-sister to Champion Hold That Tiger and Classic winner Editor's Note. The mare has also produced multiple Graded Stakes winner Indescribable and Stakes winner Elaflaak. Winner of the G3 Skip Away at Gulfstream Park earlier this spring, Micromanage has now won or placed in nince career Black type events, and a third-place effort in the G1 Haskell Invitational at three.

Medaglia d'Oro is having another fantastic year in 2014, with 13 Stakes winners, including high-level acheivers Lochte and Coffee Clique. He is also represented by two additional G2 winners this year along with two other G3 winners. Medaglia d'Oro is also the sire of Horse Of The Year Rachel Alexandra, whose first foal is a two-year-old of 2014 now training at Saratoga, along with G1 Kentucky Oaks winner Plum Pretty, G1 CashCall Futurity winner Violence, and G1 winner Warrior's Reward, currently the leading sire of two-year-olds in North America.
