Lonhro records his 43rd Stakes winner
Lonhro five-year-old Mecir became the 43rd Stakes winner for his sire, storming home to win the G3 Newmarket Handicap over 1400m at Newcastle, March 19.
After settling towards the rear of the field, Mecir gained a lovely trail in to the race on the back of his paternal half-brother Pinwheel. He peeled off the million-dollar earner's back at the 200m mark, hitting the lead in the closing stages and recording a most impressive win.
Bred by Ramsey Pastoral, Mecir is the first foal out of G1-placed Al Akbar mare Magistra Delecta.
The sire of six G1 winners including Darley stallion Denman, Champion two-year-old Pierro and star New Zealand mare Bounding, Lonhro stands at Jonabell Farm at a fee of $30,000 live foal, stands and nurses alongside Denman who stands at $15,000 live foal, stands and nurses.
