Darley stallions quinella Listed National Sprint at Canberra
Exciting Lonhro five-year-old Messene became the 42nd Stakes winner for his sire when he defeated Exceed And Excel gelding Reparations in the Listed National Sprint over 7f at Canberra, March 9.
Sent out a short-priced favorite on the back of six consecutive wins, Messene made it seven wins in a row with a determined head victory. He now boasts the imposing record of eight wins from 11 career starts.
Bred by Cloros Bloodstock, Messene is the first Stakes winner for Redoute’s Choice mare Belle Giselle, a granddaughter of Lady Giselle, the dam of G1 Australian Guineas winner and Champion stallion Zabeel as well as Baryshnikov who also won an Australian Guineas.
Messene made it a Stakes double for Lonhro over the weekend following the G3 win of star filly Bounding in New Zealand a day earlier. Bounding is one of six G1 winners for Lonhro as is Denman who is standing alongside his sire at Jonabell Farm this season.
Lonhro is standing at a fee of $30,000 live foal, stands and nurses, while Denman stands at $15,000.
