Discreet Cat's Notyouraveragejoe much better than average
Discreet Cat's two-year-old colt Notyouraveragejoe just broke his maiden last time out at Gulfstream Park, but today's Juvenile Turf Stakes was his first career start on the turf. Well, the juvenile may have found a new home on the grass as he defeated winners in his first try, and in doing so, became his sire's fifth two-year-old winner of the year, a number unsurpassed by any other sire in North America.
Notyouraveragejoe found himself farther off the lead than usual, racing towards the back of the back in the one-mile event. It wasn't until mid-stretch that he found his best stride where he then ran down the leaders to win going away.
Notyouraveragejoe was bred by Darley and Darsan, Inc., in Florida. He is out of the Mr. Prospector-line mare Julie Royale and is a half-brother to Stakes winner Mysterious Julie.
Discreet Cat, who is third on the Leading Third-Crop Sire list behind other Darley sires Street Sense and Hard Spun, is the sire of eight other Stakes winners this year, including other juvenile Stakes winner Secret Compass, winner of the G1 Chandelier at Santa Anita. He is also sire of G1 winner Discreet Marq in 2013 as well as G3 juvenile winner Debt Ceiling.
Discreet Cat will stand the 2013 for a fee of $20,000, live foal, stands and nurses.
