Secret Compass thrills in G1 Chandelier Stakes at Santa Anita
Discreet Cat sired his second G1 winner September 28 when his two-year-old daughter Secret Compass posted a thrilling victory in the G1 Chandelier Stakes at Santa Anita. The filly is the second G1 winner for her sire, after Discreet Marq impressed in the G1 Del Mar Oaks in August.
In the one-and-one-sixteenth mile event Secret Compass stalked the pace on the inside in fourth. She vied for the lead rounding the far turn, and put forth an exciting stretch battle to ultimately take the race in the final strides.
Bred by Liberation Farm & Brandywine Farm, Secret Compass was a $425,000 two-year-old purchase for owner Westrock Stables LLC. The filly is out of the Maria's Mon mare Maria's Pride, who is a half-sister to Stakes winner Smoke Mountain.
Secret Compass is the second Stakes winner on the day for Discreet Cat, as his daughter Secret Kitten stayed perfect in the Cassidy Stakes at Calder. He is currently North America's leading third-crop sire by progeny Stakes wins. He has also sired G2 winner Discreet Dancer, juvenile G3 winner Debt Ceiling, and multiple Graded Stakes winner Sage Valley.
