Bernardini gelding toys with rivals
Bernardini gelding Toydini made it consecutive Group race wins when he dominated the G3 Carbine Club Stakes over 1600m at Randwick, April 13.
After claiming the G2 Phar Lap Stakes at Rosehill three weeks earlier, Toydini was well fancied in the market and didn’t let his supporters down, careering away for a three-and-three-quarter length victory.
A gelding operation at the end of his last preparation has made all the difference to Toydini and he is expected to get his chance in G1 company in the coming months at Queensland’s Winter carnival.
Bred by Bob and Jan Bergstrom, Toydini is out of the dual Listed-winning, multiple G1 placed Johan Cruyff mare Johan’s Toy, a half-sister to G2 winner Extra Zero and G3 winner Operetta Lass.
The sire of 19 Stakes winners highlighted by G1 winners Alpha, To Honor And Serve, Stay Thirsty, A.Z. Warrior, Biondetti and recent G1-winning New Zealand juvenile Ruud Awakening, Bernardini is standing the current season at a fee of $150,000 stands and nurses.
