Any Given Saturday's Dry Summer scores in Mine That Bird Derby
Sunland Park's Mine That Bird Derby turned out to be a Darley-sired trifecta February 23, with Any Given Saturday's Dry Summer clinching his second Stakes victory. Stakes winner Show Some Magic, also by Any Given Saturday, finished second and Stormdriver, by Discreet Cat, was third.
Dry Summer was under a strong hold in the one and one-sixteenth mile race, positioning himself just off the pace. Rounding the far turn the son of Any Given Saturday traveled wide to take the lead and proved best down the lane.
Three-year-old Dry Summer was a winner of the Oak Tree Juvenile Turf Stakes at Del Mar as a two-year-old. Bred by Richard Shultz, Dry Summer is out of the Stakes-winning Street Cry mare Greenstreet. Greenstreet is a half-sister to Seattlespectacular and their dam was produced from a half-sister to Champion Vanlandingham.
Any Given Saturday is the sire of the talented and undefeated Princess Arabella from his first crop, a fantastic winner of the Sunland Park Oaks who sold for $725,000 at the Keeneland January sale. Any Given Saturday is the sire of five juvenile Stakes winners from his second crop in 2012, among them Dry Summer and Carving, a winner of the Real Quiet Stakes at Hollywood Park. Any Given Saturday stands at Darley America for $7,500 stands and nurses.
