Midnight Martini lands Cranbourne Cup
Midnight Martini led home a Street Cry trifecta when dashing away in the home stretch to win Sunday’s Listed Cranbourne Cup over a mile and a quarter and become the 57th Stakes winner for her sire.
Poised to challenge into the home stretch, Midnight Martini produced an impressive turn of foot to race clear, eased towards the finish to score over Streets Away and Streaky Fella.
“She’s certainly deserved this, blinkers today made all the difference.” winning trainer Mark Kavanagh said. Kavanagh, who trained Street Cry Group 1 winners Shocking and Whobegotyou, added, “She is by my favourite sire you know.”
Midnight Martini was bred by Mill Park Stud who still share in the ownership of the five-year-old whose granddam is the G1 winner Sawatdee who won the 1997 New Zealand Oaks.
Street Cry is the sire of 13 Group or Grade 1 winners, headed by Champion mare Zenyatta and his sons Street Boss, the sire of 2012 Stakes winner Bosco, and Street Sense, winner of the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile and Kentucky Derby and the sire of recent Listed winner Sensible Lady.
