Lonhro's son still unbeaten after Stutt Stakes
Lonhro’s outstanding son Pierro had little trouble in delivering his eighth win from as many starts in the G2 Bill Stutt Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley.
Pierro was an overwhelming favourite to win the Bill Stutt Stakes and justified his top billing with a brilliant success.
Pierro tracked the leader before asserting his dominance with his tremendous acceleration over the final 250 metres to score easily. Commands's talented son Jimando finished third in the event.
The Gai Waterhouse-trained colt won the juvenile G1 treble of the ATC Golden Slipper, ATC Sires’ Produce and the ATC Champagne Stakes in the autumn but the G1 Caulfield Guineas and G1 Cox Plate lay ahead for Pierro in his three-year-old season.
Bred by Darley, Pierro was a $230,000 purchase at the 2011 Gold Coast Magic Millions Yearling Sale. Pierro’s dam is a half-sister to the dual G1 winner Laverock, who is a son of Octagonal.
Miss Right Note foaled a sister to Pierro last year while the mare produced a Street Cry filly in 2012.
Pierro is one of 33 Stakes winners sired by Lonhro, who is standing at Darley's Kelvinside property for $110,000 (inc. GST).
