Darley-sired two-year-olds in strong demand
Just as most American’s were arriving at work early Monday morning, the breeze up sale at Doncaster in the U.K. was in full swing and one of Darley’s young sires was attracting a lot of attention. Hip number 67, consigned by Knockanglass Stables, was a very nice colt by North American freshman sire Street Boss and was knocked down for $201,000 to Stephen Hillen. The juvenile is a half-brother to Stakes-placed Quite A Rush.
Fast forward to Monday afternoon at the Ocala Breeders’ April Sale of Two-Year-Olds In-Training and another of Street Boss’ progeny were highly sought after. Hip 92, from the consignment of Niall Brennan Stables, lit up the tote board at $220,000 with Tommy Hutton’s Dream Stable taking home the handsome colt. The soon-to-be-raced juvenile is out of Stakes-placed Arizon who is a daughter of the $500,000-plus earner and multiple Stakes winner Airistar.
Street Boss is one of North America’s top sires ranked by two-year-old average in 2012. His juveniles have sold up to $825,000 and he currently is represented by the highest-priced filly in 2012 by a freshman sire at $430,000.
The final tally at the OBS Sale shows Darley sires represented by three of the top four offerings with Medaglia d’Oro and Henny Hughes also in the mix. Another juvenile from Niall Brennan Stables ended up as the session topper with the Medaglia d’Oro filly getting hammered down at $400,000. Southwind Stables signed the ticket for this striking filly who is a half-sister to Stakes winner Saturday’s Child, she out of Stakes winner Bashful Charmer.
And last, but certainly not least, a Henny Hughes filly sold by Best A Luck Farm garnered a hefty $225,000 from Oh, Ho Kuck (Oh Jong Hwan). This filly breezed one-eighth of a mile in a fantastic 9.4 seconds, co-fastest for any horse entered in the sale.
Medaglia d’Oro, Street Boss and Henny Hughes currently stand for $100,000, $15,000 and $12,500, respectively.
