Zanbagh became Bernardini’s ninth Black Type winner of 2017 on Friday, September 15, after winning the G3 Tibbie Stakes at Newcastle in Australia, a win which took her earnings well beyond the A$1 million mark.
The seven-year-old mare had already shown herself to be one of the best of her sire Bernardini’s Australian offspring with a G2 Emancipation Stakes win and a G1 placing in the Queen of the Turf Stakes.
Bred by Olly Tait, whose family raced her G1 AJC Oaks-winning dam Wild Iris, Zanbagh travelled smoothly despite being off the track and when called on she rallied strongly for rider Hugh Bowman to win with something in hand.
In a one-two for the Darley stallions, Perfect Rhyme (Poet’s Voice) ran the best race of her current preparation to take second place.
Bernardini stands at Jonabell Farm in Kentucky.
