Medaglia d’Oro’s son Veranillo is on track for the G1 Golden Slipper following a resounding win in the Listed Hinchinbrook Plate over 1100m at Randwick on 4 February, claiming his first Stakes victory. The promising two-year-old colt won his debut at Rosehill earlier in the season and remains undefeated from his first two starts.
Veranillo is a homebred colt and is out of winning mare Shelters (Lonhro), a sister to the G1 BRC The TJ Smith Classic winner Benfica.
Ridden by jockey James Doyle for trainer John O’Shea, Veranillo drew clear in the straight pulling away to win by one and a quarter lengths.
The leading stallion sired four G1 winners in 2016, including Champion and multiple G1 winner Songbird and Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf winner, New Money Honey.
Medaglia d’Oro will stand the coming breeding season at Jonabell Farm for a fee of $150,000.
