Two-year-old Hard Spun filly wins Small Wonder Stakes in first start
Two-year-old Hard Spun filly Kawfee Fa Marfa wasn't afraid to take on Black-type competition in her very first start, and it paid off September 13 with a nice debut win in the Small Wonder Stakes at Delaware Park.
In the five-and-one-half-furlong race the first time starter was fifth along the backstretch. Gaining ground on the outside rounding the far turn, she angled four-wide in the stretch to challenge for the lead, and opened up on them to win going away.
A homebred for the Elkstone Group LLC, Kawfee Fa Marfa is out of multiple Stakes winner and Graded-placed mare Idealistic Cause, the dam of G1 winner and millionaire Interpatation.
A son of Danzig, Hard Spun is the sire of five G1 winners lifetime, three of which have been in 2014 alone. They include G1 Wood Memorial and G2 Jim Dandy winner Wicked Strong, Hard Not To Like who won the G1 Jenny Wiley on the turf at Keeneland, and recent G1 Arlington Million winner Hardest Core this year. He is also the sire of Eclipse Champion Questing and G1 Mother Goose winner Zo Impressive, among others.
