There's only one way to spin it - Hard Spun is storming out of the gate in 2017. Only Tapit has more Graded winners so far this year. And if recent results are any indication, there's a pretty good chance that more winners at the higher levels for Hard Spun are coming soon.
On April 6th at Aqueduct, his three-year-old son Timeline was very impressive in his first start against winners, pulling away to win by thirteen and one-half lengths, and prompting a quick TDN designation of "Rising Star". His trainer, Chad Brown, told the Daily Racing Form, “We were very impressed with his effort. He’s a horse we always liked; we always thought a lot of. Nice to see him developing the way he is. He’s an exciting horse moving forward.” Brown said the Peter Pan, a one-turn, one and one-eighth mile race race, “is definitely a race we’re going to consider.”
Tmeline also registered a Beyer Speed Figure of 102, second only to the 105 number posted by G1 winner Mastery this spring. Now two for two, Timeline was purchased by Woodford Racing at the 2015 Keeneland September Yearling Sale for $500,000.
On April 1st, another three-year-old son of Hard Spun, Time To Travel, revealed that he, too, might possess some talent when defeating a very good field of maidens at Gulfstream Park in just his second career start. He made every call a winning one, hitting the wire four and three-quarter lengths ahead, and "drew off with authority" while also earning TDN Rising Star status. He now switches to trainer Michael Matz who also trained his full sister, the three-time G1 winner Hard Not To Like. Matz indicated that the G3 Lexington Stakes at Keeneland on April 15th is a distinct possibility for his next start.
Time To Travel races for his breeder, Garland Williamson, who also bred Hard Not To Like.
