Darley freshman Bernardini recorded his third individual winner and his first Stakes horse on Friday when Biondetti won at the first time of asking, shortly before previous winner A Z Warrior finished a narrow second in the G3 Sorrento Stakes at Saratoga.
Godolphin’s Biondetti landed the seven-furlong maiden at Newmarket in promising fashion. Never far from the pace, the Mahmood al Zarooni-trained colt hit the front with just over a furlong left to run and kept to his task well to win by a length.
Bred by Palides Investments NV, Biondetti – who cost $350,000 as a yearling – is out of the G2 winner Lyphard’s Delta. He is a half-brother to two Black type winners including G1 winner Indy Five Hundred (A P Indy).
Also on Friday, A Z Warrior, who became Bernardini’s first winner last month, became the first Black type performer for her sire when beaten just a length in the G3 Sorrento Stakes at Saratoga.
A Z Warrior is out of the Stakes-placed Carson City mare Carson Jen, dam of five winners from five foals to race including G1 King’s Bishop third and G3 winner E Z Warrior and fellow Stakes winner J Z Warrior.
