Colts Neck Stables LLC’s Goldwood continued her domination of Monmouth Park’s turf course when she zipped to a one-length victory in the Safely Kept Stakes Sept. 1.
The victory in the Safely Kept not only was the fourth straight Stakes win for the five-year-old Medaglia d’Oro mare, it was her fourth Stakes win of the Monmouth Park summer meet.
Partnered once again by jockey Jose Ferrer, Goldwood showed good early speed between rivals through the early stages of the five-furlong turf dash. Goldwood dueled with leader Valuable Package on the far turn, shook free at the top of the lane and kicked clear for a sharp one-length victory.
Miss Deplorable got up for second, with Knarsdale – another daughter of Medaglia d’Oro- taking third.
Goldwood was bred in Kentucky by her owner and is out of Crimson Maple, a winning daughter of Rahy. Crimson Maple is out the multiple G1 winner and blue hen mare, Maplejinsky, making her a half-sister to Champion Older Mare and Filly Triple Crown winner, Sky Beauty.
Medaglia d’Oro is having yet another superb year in 2019. He is represented by Graded Stakes winners Higher Power (G1 TVG Pacific Classic), Cambier Parc (G1 Del Mar Oaks), Elate (G2 Delaware Handicap, G2 Fleur de Lis), Café Americano (G3 Pucker Up), Majestic Eagle (G3 American Stakes), Golden Award (G3 Shuvee) and Crown Prosecutor (G1 Rosehill Guineas).
