The Darley stallions have enjoyed a truly outstanding weekend, with Champagne d’Oro becoming the fifth G1 winner for Medaglia d'Oro, while Darley Europe stallions King's Best and Shamardal were responsible for the winners of the English and French Derbies respectively. The stallions’ run of success continued into Sunday, when Quiet American's three-year-old daughter Switch charged down the stretch at Hollywood Park to land the G2 Hollywood Oaks.
Settled in third off the sedate early pace, the John Sadler-trained filly demonstrated her impressive turn of foot once entering the stretch, sweeping past long-time leader Camille C and easily held off the late challenge from multiple G1 and Kentucky Oaks winner Blind Luck.
This was the second career victory and first at Stakes level for Switch, who had previously finished third in the G1 Las Virgenes Stakes.
Bred by Calumet Farm, she is out of G3 winner Antoniette, whose four foals to race have all become winners.
Quiet American, sire of eight Black type performers this year, has now sired 19 Graded Stakes winners including four at G1 level.
