Sunday's Child tops in Sarah Lane's Oates Stakes
Any Given Saturday appropriately sired a new Stakes winner on Saturday, March 3 as Sunday's Child earned a well-deserved victory in the Sarah Lane's Oates Stakes at Fair Grounds.
Sunday's Child showed solid early speed in the one mile turf event and settled on the inside in third to stalk the pace. As they began to round the far turn the three-year-old filly shifted to the outside to take the lead and fought off late running competitors in the stretch for the win.
The exciting daughter of Any Given Saturday has finished in the money in all three career starts. She had most recently placed in the Louisiana Champions Day Lassie Stakes in December after a debut maiden victory in November. Bred by Stony Oak Thoroughbreds, the filly is out of the Stakes-winning mare First Lady, from the sire-producing family of What a Pleasure and Time For A Change.
Sophomore Any Given Saturday has proven to be an exciting young sire at Darley USA. In addition to Stakes-winning Sunday's Child, his daughter Princess Arabella was dubbed a TDN Rising Star and has prompted trainer Bob Baffert to state “I think Princess Arabella’s going to be better than Plum Pretty.” Medaglia d’Oro’s Plum Pretty won the G1 Kentucky Oaks in 2011, and shares owner/trainer connections with Princess Arabella. A winner of the G1 Haskell Invitational, Any Given Saturday is the best son of Champion sire Distorted Humor.
Any Given Saturday stands for $15,000 in 2012.
