Elusive Quality and Medaglia d'Oro are both enjoying outstanding seasons so far and their progeny’s Stakes-winning ways continued on July 29 when both stallions celebrated winners at Saratoga.
Four-year-old filly Devil By Design became the 11th Stakes winner this year for Medaglia d’Oro and his 19th overall when she ran out the handy winner of the seven-furlong Lucy Scribner Stakes.
Settled in third position, the Bill Mott-trained filly was angled outside entering the stretch and battled impressively to take the lead and ran on well to win by two and a half lengths.
Bred by John Gunther and Fred Sahadi, she is out of the Stakes-placed Devil Is Due mare Beauty’s Due and has now won on five occasions.
Also on Thursday at the Spa, Beau Choix – a three-year-old son of Elusive Quality – added his second straight win at Stakes level when taking the one-mile Quick Call Stakes on the turf.
Racing off the pace in third position, Beau Choix was well positioned approaching the turn and flew home to win by a head.
Owned and bred by Belle Meadows Stable and Lael Stable, he is out of the G2 winner Belle Cherie and is from the family of multiple G1 winner Octave.
Elusive Quality has sired no fewer than 14 individual Stakes winners in 2010 – more than any other US sire this year.
