Speedy filly Seradess added even more weight to her pedigree page and gave her sire Astern another Black Type success when she led all the way to win the G2 Tobin Bronze Stakes on Saturday, 7 May at Morphettville in Adelaide.
Jockey Craig Williams jumped the three-year-old, out of Australian mare Obsidian Dragon, straight to the front before controlling the tempo and sprinting home from the top of the straight.
"She's always been competing against the top horses in her age group and today we saw just how dominant she was," Craig Williams said.
Seradess, who was already a dual Stakes winner of the G3 Scarborough Stakes (1200m) and the Listed Cinderella Stakes (1050m) in 2021, was the first of three Darley sired three-year-olds to pass the winning post with General Beau (Brazen Beau) in second and Bacchanalia (Exceed And Excel) in third.
Seradess took her record to four wins and two placings from nine starts for prize money earnings of $370,950 for co-trainers Mark and Levi Kavanagh.
The Quality Thoroughbred Breeding Joint Venture bred, and Mill Park Stud raised filly is a graduate of the Australian 2020 Adelaide Magic Millions Yearling Sale where she was sold to her trainer Mark Kavanagh Racing.
Astern is now the sire of five first-crop Black Type horses - the same number as his sire at the same stage of his career - including G2 Miss Grillo winner Sail By and G3 Schuylerville runner-up Mainstay.
Astern will stand the 2022 breeding season at Jonabell Farm for $10,000, stands and nurses.
