Starting a short-priced favourite, three-year-old Elusive Quality colt Sepoy showed once again why he is a Champion, claiming his fourth career G1 victory when winning the Coolmore Stud Stakes over 1200m at Flemington, Australia on October 29.
Settling just off the pace in third position behind fellow Elusive Quality colt Unique Quality, Sepoy set out after the leaders at the 300m mark to record a narrow, but decessive win, holding off the late charge of the runner-up Foxwedge.
Becoming the first horse in history to win the G1 treble of the Blue Diamond-Golden Slipper-Coolmore Stud Stakes, Sepoy will now head to the spelling paddocks for a well-deserved break.
Racing in the colours of Sheikh Mohammed, the Champion colt is the winner of 10 races from 11 starts. Bred by Darley Australia, Sepoy is out of the Danehill mare Watchful, a full-sister to G1 winner Camarena, who is in turn the dam of G1 winner Camarilla (Elusive Quality) and the recent Listed winner Induna (Elusive Quality), who finished a gallant second later in the day in the G1 VRC Derby over 2500m. Watchful was recently covered by Champion sire Lonhro.
The sire of outstanding G1 winners Quality Road, Raven’s Pass, and Smarty Jones, among numerous others, Elusive Quality was recently represented by two-year-old filly Elusive Kate, a fantastic winner of the G1 Prix Marcel Boussac at Longchamp.
