Sentiero Italia cruises to victory in G2 Sands Point
Sentiero Italia is proving to be a force to be reckoned in the female turf division this year after she cruised to an impressive five-length victory in the G2 Sands Point Stakes at Belmont Park. It was the second straight graded stakes win for the three-year-old filly, who now sports a record of four wins in six lifetime starts. In addition to the Sands Point, the daughter of Medaglia d'Oro won the G2 Lake Placid at Saratoga.
Settled just off the pace in second for much of the race, Sentiero Italia swept past leader Cara Marie on the far turn and took command of the race, pulling away through the stretch to win easily.
Out of the winning Cadeaux Genereux mare Golden Way, Sentiero Italia is a half-sister to G1 Citation Handicap and multiple Graded Stakes winner Ashkal Way. The filly was bred in Kentucky by Darley.
Medaglia d'Oro is having a tremendous year in 2015, leading all sires with 20 black-type winners this year including G1 Del Mar Debutante winner Songbird, G1 Gulfstream Park Turf Handicap winner Mshawish and G2 winners Gold Medal Dancer and Mrs McDougal. The sire's top runners lifetime include Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra, G1 Kentucky Oaks winner Plum Pretty, and G1-winning turf specialist Marketing Mix.
