Rockport Harbor filly wins north of the border
Making her first jump into Stakes company last out, Heidi Maria was steadied on the first turn essentially removing all chances for the win in her added-money debut. Fast forward three weeks and the $125,000 Keeneland September yearling, by Rockport Harbor, had clear sailing, coming from off the pace to pull away impressively nearing the wire to win the Madmoiselle Stakes at Northlands Park.
Heidi Maria, bred by Machmer Hall in Kentucky, is a half-sister to Stakes winner Doc’s Doll (dam of Stakes winner Gator Brew and Stakes-placed Montessa), and Stakes-placed Five Sixteen, second in the 2012 Curlin Stakes at Saratoga won by Street Sense’s son Street Life.
Heidi Maria is one of a remarkable 76 winners from Rockport Harbor’s first crop, a group that includes the multiple Graded Stakes winner May Day Rose. His second crop reflects nine Stakes horses so far.
