Hard Spun, the leading North American freshman sire of 2011 by number of winners, recorded his fifth individual winner on Tuesday June 21, when his daughter Questing won impressively at Newbury. Making her debut for trainer John Gosden, she sat just off the pace before quickening well to win easily by three-and-a-half-lengths.
Bred by Darley, she is the fourth foal to race and fourth winner from the Stakes winning mare Chercheuse. While all her winners so far have been bred in the U.S., she has been transferred to Ireland where she has a colt foal by Cape Cross. She is from a prolific family that includes Quiet American's multiple G1-winning filly, Switch.
An unbeaten juvenile himself, Hard Spun has now sired five individual winners including the impressive Belmont Park victor Artest. In Europe, he has three winners including Mabroor and Red Duke, both highly rated Maiden winners.
