Promising Run makes just that at Newmarket Racecourse
Hard Spun’s excellent year got even better on September 25th at Newmarket Racecourse when his two-year-old daughter Promising Run, owned by Godolphin Stable, put forth a powerful run to win the Group 2 Rockfel Stakes. Trainer Saeed Bin Suroor gave a hint of things to come when he said, "We like her a lot. I think the mile (QIPCO 1000 Guineas route) would be better for her next season."
Promising Run was quick out of the gate and settled into second nicely as the field passed by the half-mile mark. She then overtook the leader shortly thereafter and finished strongly with the outcome never in doubt.
Bred by Darley in Kentucky, Promising Run is out of the G1-winning Brazilian mare Aviacion, also dam of South African Champion Stayer Intercontinental as well as the Group-placed Arabian Comet (by Dubawi). Aviacion is also a half to G3 winners Persane and Cerutti and to the G3-placed dam of G1 winner Eddington.
Hard Spun is the sire of six other Group or Graded winners this year, including G1 winners Hard Not To Like and Hard Aces, two of his six career G1 winners. Promising Run becomes Hard Spun’s 15th lifetime Group or Graded winner and his 31st Group or Graded Stakes horse.
