Darley announced this morning that nine-year-old stallion Regal Ransom was euthanized on December 29th due to complications from colic.
A son of Distorted Humor out of the Red Ransom mare Kelli’s Ransom, Regal Ransom was a half-brother to multiple G1 winner Devil May Care. Racing in the colors of Godolphin, he won the G2 UAE Derby and the G2 Super Derby as a three-year-old in 2009. He earned almost $1.9 million during his 16 race career before retiring to stud at Darley’s Jonabell Farm in Kentucky in 2012. His first crop of runners are two-year-olds of 2015.
“We are very saddened by the loss of Regal Ransom,” said Darley America COO Dan Pride. “These situations are never easy, but we are thankful that it was handled quickly and that he didn’t suffer. He served Sheikh Mohammed and our team well, and he will be missed.”
Regal Ransom will be buried at Jonabell Farm.
